Almost An Evening
Circle Theatre is seeking 7 men and 2 women for Ethan Coen's Almost An Evening.
Auditions will be held by appointment only on March 10 from 12-3 and March 11 from 6-10. Click here to schedule (or cancel, should that be necessary) your audition time.
Callbacks will be held on Wednesday March 14.
Auditionees should prepare a 1-1/2 to 2 minute serio-comic monologue from a play or screenplay.
The production, directed by Chris Brown, will begin rehearsals on Sunday, April 15th with previews June 2 and 5, running June 6 through July 1

Character Breakdown
Numbers indicate how actors will be doubled over each of the one-acts (i.e. Actor (1) will play both ‘Nelson’ in Waiting and ‘Waiter’ in Debate.)

Waiting
(1) Nelson - (M, 20’s -40’s) He waits...quite patiently, considering...
(2) Receptionist - (W, 20’s-30’s) She types.
(3) Mr. Sebatacheck - (M, 20’s-30’s) He’s an administrator & the bearer of bad news.
(4) McMartin - (M, 20’s-30’s) Another administrator. He’s the bearer of really bad news.
(5) Polhemus - (M, 20’s-30’s) Yet another administrator. He’s the bearer of...news.

Four Benches
(6) One - (M, 20’s-30’s) Uptight, British spy.
(5) Earl - (M, 20’s-30’s) Big hearted Texan, likes to steam nekkid.
(7) Mr. Boodrum - (M, 50’s-60’s) Earl’s daddy. One angry old buzzard.
(8) Control - (M, 30’s-50’s) The spy in charge. Calm and British.
(3) Texan - (M, 20’s-30’s) Don’t Mess with Texan...he just wants to steam.
(9) Young Mother with a Pram (W)

Debate
(8) God Who Judges - (M, 30’s-50’s) The God of the Old Testament. He’s a prick.
(4) God Who Loves - (M, 20’s-30’s) The God of the New Testament. He’s a nice guy.
(5) Angel One - (M, 20’s-30’s) Cleans up the mess.
(7) Angel Two/Understudy - (M, 50’s-60’s) Helps with the mess...then gets his big break.
(2) Young Woman - (W, 20’s-30’s) A disappointed theatre goer who just didn’t get it.
(3) Young Man - (M, 20’s-30’s) He liked the play, but he does NOT have sexual problems.
(9) Lady Friend - (W, 20’s-50’s) Kicks God’s ass, figuratively.
(6) Maitre D’ - (M, 20’s-30’s) He’s having relationship problems. Kicks God’s ass, literally.
(1) Waiter - (M, 20’s -40’s) He’s having a really bad night.


Reefer Madness
Circle Theatre is seeking 8 men and 7 women for Reefer Madness.
Auditions will be held on May 6 & 7 from 6-10 by appointment only. (Link to sign up for auditons will be added closer to the audition date.)
Callbacks will be held on May 9 from 7-10. The production, directed by Matt Gunnells, music directed by Jon Landvick and choreographed by Brigitte Ditmars, will begin rehearsals in mid-May, with previews July 14 & 17 and running from July 18 through August 26.
Auditionees should prepare 1 song in the style of the show (contemporary) and a 1 minute comedic monologue.

Character Breakdown
Jimmy Harper – (18-25) A wholesome, innocent, high school teenager who runs into trouble after he is lured into the dangerous world of reefer. Must be a strong tenor.

Lecturer – (35-50) a severe authority figure who warns the audience of the perils of Reefer Madness. (Doubles as Goat-Man, Mr. Poppy, Irish Priest, Old Man, Radio Announcer, Ticket-Taker, Policeman, and FDR) A character actor with many different voices and styles. Strong baritone and some improv skills required.

Mary Lane – (18-25) Jimmy's sweetheart, a naïve, virginal teenage girl. Squeaky clean girl with a naughty side. Soprano-belt.

Jack Stone – (30-40) The handsome and ruthless proprietor of the Reefer Den, a 30's gangster movie-type. Strong baritone required. (Doubles as Jesus (a Tom Jones-type), George Washington)

Mae – (30-40) An attractive, yet slightly haggard dame in her mid-30s, the hostess of the Reefer Den. Mezzo-belt required.

Ralph Wiley – (25-40) a denizen of the Reefer Den, formally a fraternity man, his college days ended long ago due to his reefer habit. Has a maniacal laugh. Must sing and dance well. (Doubles as Sally's Baby, Switch-Puller, Uncle Sam)

Sally (20-35) - a sexy and seductive resident of the Reefer Den, she possesses the libidinous soul of Mae West combined with the rat-a-tat moxie of vintage Barbara Stanwyck. (Doubles as Lady Liberty) Must have a strong belt and great dance skills.

Placard Girl (18-25) - throughout the play she reinforces the warnings of the Lecturer by holding large signs that clearly state the moral of what we've just seen. (also appears in the ensemble) Strong dance skills required.

Ensemble (18-40) - 4 men and 3 women to represent Reefer Zombies, Kids at the Five-and-Dime, Jungle Orgy dancers, Angels, and patriotic background chorus in the Star-Spangled finale. MUST have strong dancing and singing skills.
